Pinnacle Sustainability Awards

The Pinnacle Sustainability Awards celebrate innovation, impact, and purpose in Kenya’s floriculture industry. Now in its second edition, the Awards are a platform to honour farms and stakeholders that are demonstrating leadership and excellence in sustainability, not only in compliance but in meaningful transformation that benefits the people, planet, and profit.

The Pinnacle Sustainability Awards 2025 are the second edition of the Kenya Flower Council’s flagship initiative celebrating excellence in sustainable floriculture. Under the theme “Flourishing With Purpose,” this year's awards reflect a growing shift within the industry from meeting minimum standards to embracing sustainability as a core value and competitive strength. Building on the success of the inaugural 2024 Awards, which were nomination based and led by the KFC Secretariat, the 2025 edition marks a significant shift: members have taken the lead in nominating themselves, showcasing their own progress and commitment. This participatory model strengthens transparency, encourages peer benchmarking, and promotes sector wide learning.

Recent reflections on the industry’s future show Kenya’s floriculture sector must extend its ambition beyond accolades, investing in long term sustainability that ensures social equity, environmental stewardship, and resilient economic models.
The Pinnacle Sustainability Awards aim to spotlight and encourage exactly this kind of transformation. By celebrating those who lead with intention and impact, the Pinnacle Sustainability Awards are building a legacy of excellence and accountability that grows with each passing year.

Why It Matters

Kenya’s floriculture industry is not only one of the country’s top foreign exchange earners, it also directly and indirectly supports millions of livelihoods. With over 200,000 direct jobs, 1.5 million indirect jobs, and 4 million lives impacted, the sector plays a critical role in national development and rural transformation.

But with global climate pressures, shifting market demands, and evolving consumer expectations, the future of the industry depends on how well it can balance growth with responsibility. That is where the Pinnacle Sustainability Awards come in.

The Awards are more than a celebration of best practice. They are a sector wide movement driving continuous improvement in environmental stewardship, community inclusion, and ethical operations. They provide a platform to learn from those who are pushing the boundaries of innovation and resilience.
Through initiatives like the Kenya Flower Council’s Flowers and Ornamentals Sustainability Standard (FOSS), farms have embraced measurable progress:
  • 92% of member farms use Integrated Pest Management, reducing pesticide use by up to 40%
  • 85 % have adopted efficient irrigation systems
  • Over 60% utilize renewable energy sources
  • The sector aligns with key UN SDGs, including 1 (No Poverty), 5 (Gender Equality), 8 (Decent Work), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 13 (Climate Action)
These awards reinforce Kenya’s position as a trusted, certified, and globally competitive flower exporter, with over 80 percent of KFC member exports reaching the EU, UK, and Middle East. In celebrating farms that are not just compliant but committed, the Pinnacle Sustainability Awards serve as a catalyst for the kind of transformation the industry and the planet urgently need.
